Brooks Patterson, CRSP, C.Dir
Session Synopsis: Health & Safety from the BOD Perspective
WorkSafeBC is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors (BOD) appointed by the Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Responsible for Labour. The composition of the BOD, set out in legislation, ensures that public interest is given priority and that there is a balance of representation from B.C.'s worker and employer communities, as well as professionals from the health care/rehabilitation, actuarial, legal/regulatory, and occupational health and safety communities.
Appointed in September 2015, Brooks Patterson has served for the past two years as the sole health and safety representative on the BOD. This has provided insight into all aspects of the business from the point of view of the regulator as well as other stakeholder groups.
Brooks will speak to the challenges and opportunities that face WorkSafeBC as an organization as well as the safety culture in the construction industry in BC.
Brooks is the Vice President, HSE & Loss Control with the NorLand Limited, which is the parent company of (among others) Bel Contracting and Pacific Blasting & Demolition Ltd. He was appointed to the WorkSafeBC Board of Directors as the Health & Safety Representative in September of 2015.
He is a former Chair and current board member of the BC Construction Safety Alliance Board of Directors, is Secretary Treasurer of SkillPlan and is a trustee with the Construction Industry Rehabilitation Plan. He holds a Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety from BCIT and is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP). He obtained the Chartered Director (C.Dir.) designation from The Directors College (a collaboration agreement between McMaster University and The Conference Board of Canada), on May 26th 2017.
